In an attempt to keep things as green as possible, the London Organizing Committee of the Olympic Games (LOCOG) has set some very strict emissions standards for the summer games' VIP fleet. Many automakers attempted to create vehicles that would be both elegant in their design and light in their carbon footprint, but in the end, none of them could compare to the offerings of BMW. Needless to say, BMW of Southampton, has been giddy with excitement ever since they were officially selected.
The BMW VIP Fleet for the 2012 Olympic Games in London consists of more than 40 BMW 3 Series and BMW 5 Series models. The platforms for the fleet range from hybrids to diesels, and there are even a few all-electric models thrown into the mix. "BMW's Olympic fleet needs to be varied to deal with the complex operational demands of the Games time effort," explains Tim Abbott, Managing Director of BMW UK. "We are extremely proud for our cars to be involved in the London 2012 Games and are excited about seeing them in full service this summer."1
What's more exciting, however, than the green technologies that the BMW VIP Fleet will be using are the designs that the specific vehicles will carry during the 2012 Olympic Games. The official snapshots that BMW has released depict two models: One with a white base and another with a very light purple finish. The white car features orange London 2012 logos on its side, while the purple one features bright pink and purples graphics of the same nature. Each vehicle is striking on its own, but more so when complimented by the style of the other in the same shot.
If you plan to watch the 2012 Olympic Games this summer, whether on TV or in London, be sure to keep an eye out for the BMW VIP Fleet. More interested in actually test driving a new BMW? Then visit BMW of Southampton today at 35 Montauk Hwy in Southampton, NY 11968.
