For those of you who have been wishing BMW would introduce more diesel engines to the U.S. market we are glad to announce some good news. Following the introduction of the diesel BMW 3 Series and diesel X5 in 2009, BMW is planning on bringing two new diesel engines to their lineup, a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder and 3.0-liter six-cylinder. And, both engines will be turbo charged.
There is no official date for the release of these two new engines but the models that are most likely to offered the 2.0-liter diesel engine are the 3 Series and X1. And, the larger 3.0-liter diesel engine should make its way into the BMW X3 and BMW X5.
Historically diesel technology has not been popular in the U.S. market. However, when BMW introduced the 2009 diesel variants things began to change. The German automaker proved diesel makes a viable alternative to gasoline. This has been known to European drivers for some time now. Hopefully, the introduction of the two new engines into BMW's lineup will only encourage more drivers in the U.S. to make the switch.
