BMW of Southampton, serving Southampton, Smithtown, Bay Shore and Hampton Bays, NY, might not sell new BMW vehicles that can ride on both land and water, but that could change in the future. The company Gibbs Sports Amphibians has introduced a new ATV that can ride on both land and water. What has us so excited is that the new vehicle's engine was designed by none other than BMW.
The vehicle has been designed to transform from land to sea vehicle in under five seconds and has been dubbed the "Quadski". The power behind this craft come from a 1.3-liter four-cylinder BMW engine that produces 175 horse power and 103 pounds per feet of torque. The engine allows the craft to reach speeds of 45 miles per hour on both land and sea.
Speaking in regards to Gibb's decision to bring in the BMW powerplant, Chairman Neil Jenkins says, "We consider this engine to be the most technologically advanced, light-weight engine available today and ideally suited to power a High Speed Amphibian. We are especially pleased to be working with BMW, a premium vehicle manufacturer known throughout the world for product quality and engineering excellence."1
The craft is scheduled to hit market next month and production will increase throughout the next year. The BMW powered vehicle will be sold in select locations initially until its complete release nationally.
