The Bavarian automaker has already registered the nameplates i1 to i8, so clearly they are looking to add more to the lineup that presently features two vehicles. It certainly is not a stretch to think that in the near future the BMW of Southampton showroom will feature more models with the "i" namesake.
What is actually going to be a stretch is the plans to take the brand new i3 and make it larger and more family oriented. This model will most likely bear the i5 name and will bring to the BMW lineup a urban vehicle with more passenger space.
This new model will join the i3 and i8 electric sportscar, both of which have already seen stellar sales numbers in their brief lifespan.
The i5 will stretch the i3's legroom by four inches and add six inches to the rear overhang, creating more cargo space. Whether the final result will resemble a hatchback, minivan or wagon is not known, but it will definitely be a more family oriented electric vehicle.
With a sportscar and compact urban vehicle already in BMW's electric family, the i5 will add another element, and most likely pave the way for more additions.
We look forward to hearing more about this potential model, so keep in the know here on our blog as more information tickles down to us in Southampton, New York
