Whether it's turning our cars into LTE hotspots or harnessing the power of the Sun, our favorite automaker here at BMW of Southampton has been pulling out all the stops when it comes to technology. And now that anyone and everyone is getting rich quick with the power of apps, it only makes sense that the auto industry is getting on board. As for how BMW is cornering the market with their new and used cars, they're turning to the racetrack.

Now, before we go any further, let's be clear that we're not giving you folks the green light to burn rubber here. As cool as an app may be, safe driving always comes first. Still, the M Power Meter is as cool as they come.

Recently unveiled in conjunction with the BMW M6 Gran Coupe and available now for download on the Apple iPhone, the M Power Meter is a racer's best friend. By synching up with the sensors within the models on our lineup, the app gives drivers a play-by-play account of their performance behind the wheel. It features an overlay track map of the course you're driving on, provides head-to-head comparisons with past runs and even takes a number of variables into account like fuel mileage and engine speed. And in the spirit of bragging rights, it also lets you share your data with others.

But like we said before, safety comes first, which is exactly why the app can't be accessed while driving.

So if you'd like to learn more about the ins and outs of the M Power Meter, the experts in our car parts department would be glad to show you the ropes. And if you'd like to test it out in one of the models on our lot (like the 2013 BMW M3), your test drive awaits you here in Southampton, NY.
