It's been six consecutive years running that BMW sales have broken records. The start of a seventh looks much the same, with BMW, thanks to the activities of its three premium brands, BMW, MINI and Rolls-Royce, delivering an overall increase of 6.8% more vehicles worldwide, a total of 163,288. BMW proper drove that gain, with a sales increase of 7.2%, totaling 143,553, thanks to its X1, 3 Series and flagship 7 Series vehicles, while MINI sales grew 3.7%, up to to 19,563, due to the movement of MINI Cabrio and Clubman. Germany, the UK, France and Europe in general all saw increases in BMW deliveries, as well as did Asia, with special callout for its largest market, China, and the Americas, with a steady 1.0% total growth. BMW electrified model sales are likewise on the rise for the automaker, with a whopping double sales in January, up 115.8% on the same month last year, thanks to successes with BMW i and iPerformance.
Dr. Ian Robertson, BMW AG Board of Management member with Sales and Marketing connections, expects improvements to continue: "We’re confident that the new models we’re bringing to market this year, especially the new-generation BMW 5 Series which is about to arrive in dealerships" in mid-February 2017, "will ensure further momentum as the year goes on." The MINI Countryman will be hitting dealerships in February, and, bespeaking a further turn in the EV direction, BMW plans to introduce the 530e iPerformance in March and the MINI Cooper SE Countryman ALL4 plug-in hybrid in June.
