Before the cold temperatures of the winter season arrive, there are a few services that BMW of Southampton can perform so that your BMW is in top notch when you take it on the road. Many of the services that are performed for the winter months are to keep your car safe, but there are some to ensure that the mechanical components operate as they should for the change in the temperature.

Your antifreeze level will usually be one of the first things that is checked. You want the level to be as full as possible. The fluid should be at least a 50/50 mixture to prevent the hoses from freezing while driving in Riverhead, East Hampton, or even Sag Harbor.

During the winter months, you might need to travel on snow-covered roads. When your BMW is serviced, someone can check the tread on your tires to ensure that it's at the proper level and check the pressure in your tires to make sure it's not too low. Keep in mind that you might notice a decrease in tire pressure as the temperature drops. If you continue to see the pressure decrease or if there's one tire that's lower than another, then you might want to get your tires checked to ensure that there are no objects in them.

Consider replacing your wipers so that they are strong enough to clear away snow and ice from your windshield. You can also add defroster to your windshield wiper fluid as a way to help with the melting process if you don't cover your windshield in freezing temperatures. Check your battery to ensure that it has enough charge for colder temperatures in Southold and the greater Long Island area. This is also a good time to check your alternator and starter as these components tend to work off of each other. Your spark plugs can be changed during your winter service as well to ensure that your car has the proper performance on the road.
